New Hanover Family Learning Center

New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Church is in the planning stages to open the New Hanover Family Learning Center (NHFLC). It is our goal to gain congregation approval, meet requirements of New Hanover Township, and be certified by the PA Department of Human Services in order to welcome children into our facility by Fall 2025.

The Plan

NHFLC will be a non-profit ministry of our church dedicated to providing a Christian-based education for children of age two through fifth grade. We are planning to have classes for 2-Year Olds (24-36 months), Preschool/Pre-K 3-Year Olds, Preschool/Pre-K 4-Year Olds, Kindergarten Enrichment, and Before/After Childcare for students in 1st through 5th grades. We will offer a “hybrid” approach at NHFLC by offering both full and part-time programs during both the school year and the full year. We will operate from 6:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Parents will have flexibility to select the program that meets their needs.

Our goal is to make all children feel they are welcome in our “family” by providing opportunities to experience God’s world through play-based learning activities. Teachers will create safe and nurturing environments with learning activities in both indoor and natural outdoor spaces. This will allow experiences that incorporate wonder and exploration to develop a love for learning.

Who We Serve

NHFLC will serve community members with young children from two years of age through elementary school age. In addition, we will be inclusive of all children. With our experience through Rejoicing Spirits, an all-inclusive and especially differently-abled worship service, we are sensitive to children with disabilities and will make reasonable modifications so that they can learn and participate in the same daily activities and routines as their peers.

Mission Statement

We love our neighbors by caring for and educating their young children.

Core Values

  1. We believe that all children are a gift from God and will therefore embrace diversity and welcome all. We will encourage children to accept who they are.
  2. We are a Christian based program and believe that God’s love and grace have been freely given. We will share Christian traditions including weekly worship, praying before meals, and celebrating holidays.
  3. We believe that focusing on respecting others and sharing kindness leads to a positive classroom culture where children’s well-being can thrive.
  4. We believe that play is fundamental for healthy development and young children learn best through play. We will create inspiring play settings that will enrich children with learning opportunities.
  5. We believe that young children need to explore the outdoors to gain knowledge and understanding of the challenges that exist in the natural environment. We will provide environment sustaining education opportunities to motivate children to improve and resolve these challenges.
